so, today:

i lost my jacket. to be more accurate, i forgot it in the whitt monday. it isn't up on the court, it isn't down in the fencing room, and it isn't in lost n found. so someone decided they wanted to keep my 6 yr old stained green fuzzy jacket. (the one with the rose bowl sticky, laur).
and i lost the ms office 2000 cd a few days ago. i'm on a goddamn roll.

also, just now, it took me AN HOUR to get my computer to boot up w/o freezing. this involved uninstalling zonealarm and mcaffee. tho somehow mcaffee, despite being uninstalled, IS STILL RUNNING. GET OFF MY FUCKING COMPUTER.

so yeah, this has been a super fun evening.
state: seething

this why i never install anything ever. i still refuse to ad adobe acrobat reader, even though i need it. i dont even update software ever. cuz someday it will end up going crazy and eating my computer, just like all that other software.

McAffee is friggin' evil. My friend installed it to kill off a bunch of viruses and it ended up making things worse.

it's always worked ok before. but suddenly last night every time it started up it would freeze and kill explorer. and for some reason, when you end explorer in xp, it doesn't start itself up again like it did in 98. is there a way to make it be living again?
so yeah, no virus thing now. i dunno about that. i think i'll try it again on a provisional basis, maybe. unh has a contract with mcaffee so students get it free

I still use 98 (and sometimes 2000 at work), so I don't know a thing about XP.

As far as anti-virus software goes: I don't use any. I download the trial version of Norton AV once a year or so if things seem to be fucking up, but I always come out clean. In the 14 years I've been using PCs, I've only gotten one virus and that was from a moment of sheer stupidity and I fixed it right away. Use a decent e-mail program and a firewall and you don't need to worry about them.
