|05:36 pm - better than the world|
yesterday i saw the ring and matrix 2. they were both disapointments.
lauri's parents got a puppy. he is cute and obnoxious.
we ate at a diner with a scary waitress who disaproved of our not ordering boston creme pie. they had a lifesize pirate statue in the lobby.
it was a fun day.
[warning: the comments contain x2 spoilers. which is funny cuz i haven't seen x2 yet and i've heard about this from like 5 people already, but just in case you want to be spared]
np: Counting Crows - Hard Candy - 06 - Butterfly In Reverse
Wasn't "The Ring" 50% hilarious and 50% totally retarded and ridiculous? I thought it was supposed to be scary...
it had some creepy bits, but then it ended and i was like wtf they never said what happened
err, that's the point. you're supposed to figure it out. it's not really hard.
well i tried to figure it out and couldn't, so maybe you can explain it to me:
where did the girl come from? why is she evil? what does it mean that she never sleeps? what is this communication that she wants to spread? if her communication is about what happened to her, she could say so. instead she shows some random images and tells people they have 7 days. what does she do to people? what does it mean that she never sleeps? if she doesnt sleep, how did the horses keep her awake? what did she do to the horses?
they spend so much effort with a big complex contrived explanation of everythign else and then completely ignore the most obvious questions. the girl shows up with no explanation, is evil with no explanation, is killed, and continues to to kill people with no explanation. and we dont even know HOW they die. the 1st girl's mom said she died of fright cuz her heart stopped, but the shot of her in teh closet was clearly rotten and nasty, and the same thing happened to noah at the end, but what about that guy who killed himself and the kids in teh car crash? or the other girl from the beginning who was in the mental hospital
i mean, dont get me wrong, it did have some creepy parts (i think the best was at the end when she tells her son she helped the girl and he freaks out.. "you HELPED her??")(speaking of which, what was with her son? why did he randomly get all these ghosts and stuff talking to him and drawing the house and all that. that didnt happen to anyone else)
if they wanted to make a creepy horror movie that's great, but once it turns into a mystery too they need to solve the mystery at the end or why bother?
basically my impression of the movie is that the people who made it had no idea what was going on either, so they structured the movie so that it seems like it reveals more than it does.
haha no. 75% of those things can be figured out if you just watch it again or attempt to figure it out more thoroughly. the rest you could just look up and read interpretations of. that's what i did. not too hard.
i dunno about that, kitty. i did look online and i found a whole bunch of sketchy theories that end up stretching the movie's logic even further than it'd already gone. and of people i have talked to about the movie, you're the only one who has thought there were good answers to my questions. so either you're way smarter than everyone else or you're reading too much into a movie that isn't as deep as it wants to seem
maybe i'm the smart one and "everyone else" is dumb.
oh well, i lost interest in this awhile ago.
yea, so you dont really know me, i dont think... anyways.. i just wanted to say that it is comforting that you thought that matrix 2 was dissapointing... i was looking forward to seeing that and the sequal to Xmen... and let me tell you, they both let me down big time.. and i was startin to worry that it was me... lol

How did "X2" disappoint you?

For me I would have to say "Not nearly enough of Nightcrawler kicking bum" =) Otherwise no complaints.
just didnt feel as complete as the first. i think i was expecting more. i dont know. it was good, but it didnt leave me satisfied and wanting more like the first
i haven't seen x2 yet, but nightcrawler is the best xman ever

Maybe this only applies to comic geeks who already know everything that's going on, but I have never seen a movie that left me wanting more like "X2" did.

You saw the bird-shape in the lake, did you? X3 is going to be awesome! Also, I can't imagine that Stryker died. I am picturing Sentinels at some point.

Man, if they do the Dark Phoenix saga right (given their track record w/ the last two movies, I don't see how they CAN'T) I'm gonna' cream my pants. I can't see how Phoenix whupping the Marvel Universe's collective ass CAN'T make for an amazing movie. And remember what Stryker said: "Somebody will finish what I've started." I would definitely LOVE to see Sentinels on the big screen. I've always loved them because they weren't a big threat, they were just an endless source of enemies for the X-Men to tear through if they wanted to make a badass fight sequence. lol

maybe dan should change the title of this post to "warning: spoilers"?
a warning has been installed
okay, i'm not up on my stryker lore, i have to admit. what is his deal? presumably he is all hating on mutants cuz of his son, but if he keeps his son around, what is he thinking about everyone. the "you're all already dead" line didn't sound particularly convincing. and what was that magneto said about him being hte only other guy as good with metal as he was? from that i thought he was a closet mutant himself, but he was getting zapped when prof x was cerebro-ing all the humans so that theory's out
well.. maybe it is just my spirits lately and not the movie itself, i am sorry to cause such a commotion
don't be sorry for your opinions. stick to yer guns!
i haven't heard anyone else complain about x2, but we're definitely not alone in not being thrilled with matrix2
okay now that i've seen xmen2, i can say that i was definitely not disapointed in this one. i thought it kicked the 1st movie's ass. so we only half agree.
well.. i have been rethinking my statement.. before i left college, my neibor was watching Xmen2, and i was listening in.. and i was thinking that i wanted to watch it again... i dont know, matrix reloaded didnt live up to my standards, but i dont think i was all there when i watched xmen2 because i do really want to see it again! so i definately think it was just my spirits that day. *shrugs*
