has anyone ever actually been given good advice and followed it? i don't mean like advice on the quickest route to the store, but like you have a problem in your personal life, you talk to a friend about it, they advise you. do you ever say "hey that's a good idea" and go break up with bob, or whatever it is they said to do? or do you tell them they're probably right and then keep on doing what you were doing already? i know that's what i do. and i can't remember offhand anyone else ever taking my brilliant advice. why do we still ask?
My friend Rita gives the best advice I ever heard. She cuts right through the crap and gets to the heart of what's wrong/what I should do. I *love* her giving me advice but she only gives it if I ask for it.
i have. i was bitching loudly several months before my wedding about how i didn't have any motivation to go to the gym, and laura told me that she's found it's pointless to sit around waiting to feel motivated; eventually you just have to make yourself do it.
so i did. and it totally worked.
people don't want advice. most of the time, we know what we SHOULD do or what the best course of action is, and we want that validated by someone else, but no matter what we'll probably do what we want anyway.
my boss and i were talking about this. people really just want an opinion. they want to vent and talk to another human about what their problem is. but most people don't take advice.

i've followed STUPID advice before. of course, when you are clueless and looking for advice, you can't tell what's good and what's bad advice. until of course, you'f already dug your grave, and then you're like "Hey, this doesn't look like a swimming pool! OH NO!" *trips, falls in* but i've also followed some good advice, too. my mom gives good relationship advice sometimes, although i hate to admit it. --andrea
