01:20 am - fun fact of the day

If you want your birthday off, request it as a religious holiday.

Satanism is an officialy recognized religion in the United States, and its only official holiday is a persons own birthday.

Of course, this means you may end up working other days, like christmas. But you'd still get double pay.

Christmas and other holidays are legislated as such, I think (New Year's and Labour Day and such, particularly). So you would still get holiday pay for those. =)

indeed. and they wouldn't pay you double time for your own "holiday".. you'd just have to book it off as unpaid time, which i can do without making my work think i'm insane. the only obligation they have is to not make you work your holiday, not to pay you for it.. and you'd have to let them know in advance anyway.. so it does little good.

i dunno bout you commies, but valid holidays for most fulltime people don't get counted against # of days off you can get, for sicktime or vacation or jerkin off or whatever.

true, but we were talking about holidays.. why not just call in sick or book off your bday as a vaca day then?

this is true. and that's a shame.. but you get those meaningless days off, so it makes up for it. they can't cater to everyone's religion to the point of paying you for all sorts of ridiculous holidays.. that wouldn't be fair

well you don't get paid for taking the day off. but it's not counted against your sickdays or whatever if you take it off. so you get a day off, no pay for it, and you're still all set for when you need a full week off to get over that pesky ebola

yes, you do that. you can take it as a paid day tho in your vaca time. or paid sick if you want. and when you run out, you can have unpaid sick and vaca. and you still have all those paid meaningless holidays..

here it's time if you don't work, and double time and a half if you do. point is, holiday pay only counts for established legal holidays, or ones that the company chooses to subscribe to.. but it's the same for everyone. you can have your "holiday" off, but they don't pay you specially because of it.
